Cozumel by Sea
Hola Cozumel! My husband and I are the cruising type. We love to cruise and have been to Cozumel
twice and both for just one day as part of our cruise itinerary. The first time we docked in Cozumel we walked
down the street toward the left of the port to Margaritaville. We sat and had some good Mexican food and
drinks and took in the wonderful blue water views. We went to the nearby shopping center and
purchased some Mexican instruments; something we do on all of our traveling
adventures. Handmade maracas and a
ukulele were the Cozumel treasures we brought home.
We spent the entire day enjoying the beautiful blue water, snorkeling, eating great food, and drinking umbrella drinks. Senor Antonio was our server and he was awesome. He spent time talking to us about Cozumel and his family. He was born and raised in Cozumel but went to school to learn English. He enjoyed practicing his English but I guess it didn’t hurt that half of our group spoke Spanish too. The ceviche was to die for but all the food was freshly made to order and super tasty. Stay away from the Senor Sancho drink! I didn’t like it at all and it hit folks pretty hard that tried it. It was HOT! Literally… It has tabasco and some other spices in it that leaves a hot taste in your mouth. YUCK! Pina Colada for me please!
A few folks rented jet skis for $70 per hour and really enjoyed going up and down the beautiful beach coast. The rest of us lounged around, floated around in floaties, and snorkeled. It was a wonderful time on the beach and in the water. The Mexican people are very friendly and warm. They have a huge tourism industry and many make their livelihood from those of us visiting the island. After our day long stay at Senor Sancho we took a cab down to an outdoor trendy bar that was right on the beach and sat and had a drink and awesome conversation. We went back to the port and did some shopping for souvenirs and of course you can’t visit Mexico without buying a bottle of Tequila.
“Arriba, Abajo, Al Centro, Pa Dentro”! This is the Mexican "cheers". Literally translates to "Above, Below, Center, Inside"
The second time we visited Cozumel was just this past
May. We took a 5 day cruise with family
and friends and this time we went to visit Senor Sancho's Beach Club! Senor Sancho's was only about a 15 minute ride
from the port and the van that took all 8 of us only charged $5 each for each
way. Senor Sancho's is an all-inclusive
resort that includes a beach chair, table and chairs under and umbrella, all
the food and drinks (including alcoholic drinks) you can eat. The cost is $55 per person and completely
worth it. You can even reserve online at http://www.mrsanchos.com/ for $5. It is on one of the best
beaches and there wasn’t a crowd. Cruise
crowded beaches are the worst!
