2017 Travel - Year In Review

2017 Travel - Year In Review - 2017 was a great year for us travel wise and in every way! It is our goal to go on a trip every month and we almost achieved that goal. We love travel and love sharing our experiences with others. In 2017, we traveled to Barbados, New York City, Cozumel, Montreal, Israel, Punta Cana, Myrtle Beach, San Antonio, and Jamaica (girls trip). We enjoy a mix of both city and beach trips. We enjoyed every beach trip. The time to relax, see new places, meet new people and have fun in the sun was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay at the Secrets in Punta Cana tremendously. The resort is very nice and the staff was amazing. The food was excellent and the beach was relaxing. We toured the island a bit and had a great time as a couple just being disconnected from the world and enjoying the beauty God created. My first blog was about our stay in Cozumel which was a great time at the beach as well. If you have not read the blog, please do so. We love Cozumel. There are a number of adventurous things to do and plenty of time to relax. We also stayed at a Secrets in Cozumel. We have found that Secrets (AM Resorts) is our go to resort chain. Jamaica is a great getaway for those on the east coast. It is a relatively short plane ride and always a great time. My stay there was at the Breathless resort (Am Resorts) where I had a private butler, an amazing suite, and a great time with friends. It was quite an indulgence and I loved every minute of it. We have found that trips to various cities along with beach trips give us a combination of cultural events and relaxation along with fun. We are a couple who crave variety in our travel. We can not just go to the beach for our vacations and feel fulfilled. We enjoy museums, history, learning new things along with fun-filled beach trips. Our favorite cities thus far are absolutely London, Paris, San Francisco, and New York. In 2017, we were able to visit a few cities along with our beach trips and had a great time. In each city, we always visit museums and attend plays. In 2017, we had the great fortune of attending Hamilton and truly enjoyed it. It is everything that people say it is!!! I highly recommend seeing it. The best museum we have ever visited is by far a museum here at home, the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The British Museum in London is a close second, although I find it interesting and a bit disheartening that they have so many artifacts from other countries that they once colonized. The most unusual museum we visited was the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco. In 2017, we truly enjoyed the Musee Stewart in Montreal. It was great to learn more about the history of Montreal and it is a wonderful setting. New York as always was an amazing trip. We saw the Book of Mormon which is so funny but you definitely feel like it is sinful to watch the play and laugh so hard at the off-color jokes and obvious jabs at organized religion. We also saw Jitney by August Wilson which was an amazing play! It is one of my life goals to see all of the August Wilson plays. I have already seen more than half of his plays. The Riverwalk in San Antonio is also something we did in 2017 and it is a must see. Take the actual gondola tour and learn the history of the Riverwalk. It is well worth it. Hands down though, our best trip of 2017, if not our best trip in life, was our trip to Israel. The trip to Israel is more of a pilgrimage than a vacation. We went on this journey with family and our cousin’s church group. We visited the Sea of Galilee, Bethlehem, Jericho (the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world), the Dead Sea, the Jordan River and Jerusalem (including the old city of Jerusalem). Walking the Via Dolorosa and ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is life-changing. My next blog will be all about this beautiful, amazing, life changing journey. I cannot wait to share it with you. God bless you in your travels!!
