A Night in South Beach, Miami.

The art deco buildings... The Christmas lights... The cars... The food... The drinks... The vibes...  It has to be South Beach Miami!

We spent two days and a night in Miami before our cruise and boy did we have fun. The night life in South Beach is always poppin!  We are older and enjoy the lounges more so then the club scenes.  Mostly we walked along Ocean Drive and in the South Beach area. There are so many lounges and a number of exceptional restaurants to eat at on Ocean Drive. It's been a while since either one of us has been to Miami's South Beach area and so much has changed.  But one thing remains the same, people get done up to go gallivanting on Ocean Drive. Folks are dressed to impress and driving some pretty amazing cars to match.  Cruising down the drive is still a favorite based on the traffic pace and the amazing rides passing by.
We enjoyed sitting outdoors, indulged in amazing food and drinks, and people watched.  Sitting outdoors is awesome when the weather is so nice and there is so much to see.  We also love meeting new people and met an amazing mother and daughter duo who was also sitting outside enjoying their dinner.  They spoke of how hard it was for her mom, who immigrated from Colombia to the US to give her daughter a better life and more opportunities.  The mom, Salaria, was an engineer back in Columbia and worked for the federal government.  She was well off and considered part of the higher class.  But she knew that staying in Columbia was going to be difficult for her daughter.  So she moved to the states, New York, to be with her daughters dad and to give her daughter more opportunities.  The parents later divorced, the mother and daughter moved to Florida.  The mom works in the health care industry and is working on her masters degree while the daughter goes to college and studies to be a doctor.  What an amazing story and great dinner company.
We had never been to Miami in November or December.  The Christmas decorations are amazing.  The palm trees lining Ocean Drive were all lit with white lights and it was just spectacular.  There were also huge ornament balls lit up at the entrance points to the beach just propped up on the sand.  Wow! Just beautiful...
We rented a car and did a lot of driving around in the area during the day enjoying the architecture.  Although Miami is quite developed and seems very compact, there is still quite a bit of building happening.  I was pretty surprised at how many ocean and water front buildings were going up on our coastal drive from Fort Lauderdale to Miami, one more beautiful then the other and one more grandeur than the other. We love Florida and driving around affords you the opportunity to see a lot more at your personal pace versus Ubering from point to point.  Plus... renting a car in Florida is very inexpensive in fact it is more economical than taking taxi cabs or Uber everywhere.  Just be prepared to take is nice and slow.  Most people are not in a hurry to get anywhere. Definitely different than driving around the DC area for sure.
